      This piece originally wrote for lute by Gautier. So playing this chaconne on guitar definitely works and I guess sounds great! The edition I used for this performance is le pupitre Heugel. Thank you for your comment!

I live in Brazil, and it is hard to find this material because there are few publishers, specially when regards to composers not so ' populars' such as Bach, Hendel, etc. Sometimes I asks for one such Royer, and the vendor look at me and says " Who?!..." ....thank you again!       @@SatonoNorizuki Not really sure; you could take the dampers off a Neupert; tune the thing to something old. It would still sound great. Leaves the question however; what have we been doing the last 150 years? What has been the point since 1970? Harpsichord revival? Plastic jacks that fall apart while taking a snooze? A flower painting competition the lot has become. It was back in the day about vulgarizing old music. We're far from getting towards our goal.

      @@paulnijsten6360 The instrument I played on this video is a clavisimbalum, an ancestor of the harpsichord. It came from Henri Arnaut de Zwolle's manuscript treatise around 1440. Arnaut illustrated and described three different plucking actions and one hammered action. In his drawing, jacks don't have dampers. Harpsichords probably appeared in the 1300s, and the historical dampers are different from the modern ones. Although it depends on a performer's preference, playing the historical harpsichord is pleasant. Thank you for your comment!

      Hi Daniel, there is a facsimile by American Institute of Musicology. Also a music score book titled "Keyboard music of the late middle ages in Codex Faenza 117" edited by Dragan Plamenac is very nice. I arranged scores from the facsimile myself. Hope it helps!

    The term toccata doesn't appear until the early 18th century, it looks like. I wonder what they would have called this when he composed it.

      The toccata was originated in the 16th century. Many Italian composers in the 16th and 17th century such as Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, Giovanni Picchi, and Frescobaldi wrote beautiful toccatas. Stradella's toccata is one of my favorites!

    Very odd : clavicimbalum isn't mentionned before the 14th century, and the Estampie Real is from the 13th century... you could as well played it on a Fender Rhodes ;o)

      The earliest known reference of the clavisimbalum is Henri Arnaut de Zwolle's manuscript in c.1440, but I've played many instrumental works before the 15th century on the clavisimbalum.
